Greetings from the East - November 2015

Brethren:

The month of October brought us the third annual Feast of Tishri which was a great success. Over 30 brothers came out for an evening of dining and canon firing. After opening the festive board I had the privilege of passing the gavel to the nights Master of Ceremonies, Nick Seneca 32°. Nick, who executed the task with perfection could have only been out done by our outstanding guest speaker. The Most Worshipful and Illustrious R. Stephen Doan, 33°. If any of you have the opportunity to attend any of Illustrious Doan's speaking engagements it is strongly recommended.

Our next meeting will be November 18, which is scheduled a week earlier due to Thanksgiving. We will have a Cap and Ring Ceremony to welcome our newest members and a brief presentation after.

Thank you,
Shane DaCosta, 32°
Venerable Master

Greetings from the East - May 2015

Brethren:

The April meeting was a spectacular two-ring circus! With events held in both the Lodge Room & Dining Hall. The evening started in the Dining Hall as 60+ guests were treated to a perfectly cooked steak provided by Illustrious Mert Gayler, 33° & Illustrious Charlie Ash, 33°, and Michael Gayler. After another great Annual BBQ we moved on to our presentations. The first presentation of the night was a 50 Year Cap to Ben Manierre, 32° KCCH by Illustrious Frank S. Loui, 33°, Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the Supreme Council in California. Following that great presentation the Valley was presented with our VMAP Participation Certificate which was given to our Valley by the Supreme Council. When we all thought the presentations couldn't get any better the Palm Springs Lodge #693 presented a very generous donation to the Childhood Language & Learning Center. After all of our presentations were complete the members moved on the Lodge Room for the presentation of the 5th Degree by our new 5th Degree team.

Our next meeting will be another great event as we present our newest Scottish Rite members with their Caps and Rings. May is also the month we award our yearly scholarship to a very deserving student.

Please mark your calendars now for our upcoming Special Events. Childhood Language & Learning Center Open House on Sunday, May 3, 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM, Celebrating The Craft on Saturday, May 16 and our Annual Feast of Tishri on October 17, 2015. These are two exceptional events, and I will have more information to follow.

Thank you,
Shane DaCosta, 32°
Venerable Master

Brethren:

Our first Stated Meeting of the new year, is in the books and had a fresh look! Although our fabulous dinner started off a little late, the menu and portions made up for it. For the first time in a long time, the Valley of Palm Springs held a presentation of the 4th Degree. I would like to personally thank our Degree Chairman, Arman Ordian, 32° PVM and our new 4th Degree team of Nick Seneca, 32°; Dan Oates, 32°; Jens Petersen, 32° PVM; Michael Sekera, 32°; Alan Franks, 32°; Rudy Velasco, 32°; Ben Manierre, 32° KCCH; Bill Lightner, 32° and Shaun Johnson, 32° for their dedication to the craft. With the number of members who have been stepping up recently and putting in the extra effort for our new programs, makes me confident that all of our goals for 2015 will be accomplished and the future of our Valley is on the path of progress.

For our March Meeting we will present our Annual Celebration of Remembrance and Renewal. In this ceremony, we remember those Brethren who have journeyed on to the "Celestial Lodge" above, those Brothers with whom we have shared the beauty and grandeur of Masonry with. I strongly urge all of our members and guests to attend our Celebration of Remembrance. Please mark your calendars now for our upcoming Special Events. Celebrating The Craft on Saturday, May 16 and our Annual Feast of Tishri on October 17, 2015. These are two exceptional events, and I will have more information to follow.

Last but not least, we are having a Scottish Rite Work Day on Saturday, March 28. We need people to help and donations in order to make this day a success.

Thank you,
Shane DaCosta, 32°
Venerable Master

Greetings from the East - February 2015

Brethren:
The 2015 valley of Palm Springs Installation of officers was a great success! There was over 60 guests who came out to see this outstanding line of officers be installed. The evening started with a classic Masonic meal of steak and potatoes presented nicely by our catering crew. We then moved into the lodge room for our main event. Illustrious Mark Gibson 33° as Installing Officer, Michael Powell 32°, KCCH as Master of Ceremonies and Illustrious Charlie Ash, 33° as Installing Chaplain put on a near flawless installation. There were 14 Honor Men attending including Illustrious Herb Wilkins 33°, Grand Cross of the Court of Honor and a pair of Valley Personal Representatives, Illustrious John Nolan 33° from San Bernardino and Illustrious Richard Wood 33° from Santa Ana.

After having the gavel presented to me I had the opportunity to briefly introduce my plans for the year. This year will be a year of Progress and Revitalization. With our Valley participating in VMAP we will have every opportunity to give our existing the experience they originally joined Scottish Rite for and to build excitement to attract new members. The first step in this process will take place at our February meeting as we will confer the 4th degree prior to our stated meeting. If you haven't had the opportunity to attend a 4th degree recently please take this opportunity to come out and observe the first of the Ineffable Degrees. We will have a separate program in the dining room for the ladies & guests.

I would like to thank my brothers from the Valley of Palm Springs for choosing me to lead the way this year and as Venerable Master, I pledge to perform all my official duties to the best of my abilities and strive in knowledge, truth, charity, and brotherly love insuring that our Valley will always have honor and respect among the Craft that will last an eternity.

Thank you,
Shane DaCosta, 32°

Greetings from the East - January 2015

Brethren:
My year as Venerable Master of The "Palm Springs Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Of Freemasonry" has come to a fantastic close!! I had many special moments, and events that touched me greatly, one of these events was recent. On December 17, I had the pleasure, and distinct honor of presenting Brother Leo S. Seidner, 32° his "50 Year Membership Pin, Blue Hat and 50 Year Certificate. During the festivities I had the opportunity of speaking with Brother Seidner, 32° and from time to time we have all heard the words "A Masons-Mason" well with Brother Seidner, 32° these words not only apply, they fit nicely into his world as shown below: Brother Leo, has influenced his Son and Grandson as well as many others into the "Light of Masonry", as exemplified by his business dealings that took him to the "Far Corners of the Globe" and as he recounts it, Brother Leo "Found Masonic Brethren" throughout those adventures.

One of those adventures include the immediate friendship of Liberian President, William Tubman, who also served as the "Grand Master" of the Grand Lodge of Liberia!! Brother Leo who now lives in Rancho Mirage, and hopefully will be attending our Valley of Palm Springs in 2015 and beyond - Welcome Brother Seidner 32°!!

As well, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all my officers, their spouses, together with everyone who spent countless hours working to make 2014 a fantastic year!!

Also, Brothers James "Jens" Petersen, 32° PVM, for leaving me our Valley of Palm Springs Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in an "Outstanding State" while he continued working with our Childhood Language and Learning Center (Now President) and found time throughout my year take charge and do all the necessary work involved with our "Dinner Reservation System"

Then there's Brother Arman Ordian 32° PVM - who presently Chairs our 14th Degree team and always found time to come early and stay late, while doing anything and everything necessary to help this Valley in 2014.

And lastly, Brother Robert Jacob, 32° KCCH, Secretary for All Bodies for The Valley of Palm Springs Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, who without his personal help, and guidance, I don't believe my year as Venerable Master would have been as successful.

Finally, Brother Shane DaCosta, 32° who has been voted by the brethren as Venerable Master for 2015 and as I prepare to hand off the gavel, and all the responsibilities thereto I take pause to express my sincere "Gratitude" for all the help and assistance I've received from you; "My Brothers" of The Valley Of Palm Springs Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, for making my year as your Venerable Master the most memorable I've had in my Masonic career, and for that "Thank You!!

Happy Holidays!!
Happy New Year!!

Fraternally & Sincerely,
Kurt Handshuh, 32°
